Back to School ~ Important Updates

8/12/2020

I wanted to start out by thanking all of you for your continued support of St. Peter's School during these times of great uncertainty. I know that there have been rumors going around the community about us potentially closing. Please know that we are open and plan to remain open for the 20-21 school year and into the future. We are working hard on making building improvements to help safely transition the students back to school full time in this fall. Thank you to everyone who participated in the Building Improvements Survey that was sent out last week. Your feedback is very helpful! We have ordered touchless sinks, a water bottle filling station for upstairs, touchless hand sanitizer stations, and UVC light wands for sanitizing purposes. I will continue to update you as improvements are completed.

Ms. Robran has decided not return to her position at St. Peter's this fall. We are sad to see her go and wish her the best in the future. We are happy to announce that Ms. Podany will be replacing her for the upcoming school year. Early next week I will be sending out her official welcome letter to all families so that you can get to know a little bit more about her. She comes to us from Big Bend Elementary with 3 years teaching experience! Welcome Ms.Podany!
Due to enrollment changes we needed to reconfigure classes for the upcoming school year. Below is the list of classes and teacher assignments for the fall.

K3-K5- Christina Kaminski
1/2- Kelsey Podany
3/4- Ashley Kommer
5/6-Sue Flogel
7/8- Mary Hudec

Our teachers are excited and hopeful about the upcoming school year and are working hard to prepare for the various circumstances that may arise. Each teacher is working to plan out their instruction for the year to be better prepared should we find ourselves in a virtual learning scenario. I am very grateful for their dedication during this difficult time!

Lastly, Fr. Mark and I wanted to thank you all for your commitment to St. Peter's School! I know that there have been many changes and that although things might not look as they have in the past we are still dedicated to providing the best Catholic education to our all of our students. As always, I am available by phone or email with any questions or concerns that you may have.

2020 School Re-Entry Plan

8/5/2020

St. Peter's School Families,
I know that in times of uncertainty its important to feel informed. We created a document to help parents gain insight of what the school day will look like for students and what some of the new expectations are when starting school in the fall. Please know that this is a fluid document and things may need to change. We will inform you when changes are made to this document. Thank you for your continued support of St. Peter's School! As always, email me with any questions you might have.
2020 School Re-Entry Plan

Back to School ~ Important Updates

7/30/2020

Good Afternoon!
I want to start out by saying that due to the Governors Mask Order, all students in grades K5-8th as well as staff will be required to wear a mask while in the school building until September 28th. At that point, should the Governor not extend the order, the Emergency Response Committee will re-evaluate the use of masks. What I have learned so far through all of this is that even with the best laid plans, things are going to change. We are doing our best as a school to adjust accordingly. The Committee met this morning to discuss more details about school re-opening in the fall and I wanted to provide families with a few of those updates.

Back to School Night-
  • We will still be having back to school night on the originally scheduled date Wed. Aug. 26th
  • 4-6:30pm-30 minute family time slots-sign up will go out soon
  • Masks will be mandatory
  • School pictures will not take place on Back to School Night
  • Limiting it to 2 adults per family

School Hot Lunch Program-
  • We will still be providing a hot lunch option for families
  • 2 separate lunch periods (K3-4/5-8)
  • Pre-packaged silverware and condiments
  • Cold lunches will be kept in lockers instead of communal bins
  • Social distanced seating arrangements will be utilized

Staffing Update-
I am still in process of conducting interviews to fill the 2/3 and 4th grade positions. I plan to have a final decision on the candidates by next Thursday. Please understand that this is a difficult time for everyone, especially teachers and as a Committee we are doing our best to consider our school families as well as our school staff. It is my goal to hire experienced and dedicated teachers to be a part of our St. Peter's family.

Enrollment Update-
Please get your registration paperwork for next fall in as soon as possible. We have gotten many phone calls this week about new students and its important that we have an accurate picture of what our numbers are for staffing purposes. We have decided that we are caping class sizes at 17 currently in order to maintain social distancing protocols in the classrooms. If numbers continue to increase we are considering hiring a classroom aide or splitting classes. I will continue to update you as things evolve over the next few weeks.

Building Improvements Parent Survey-
The Committee as well as the school maintenance staff have been working together to formulate a list of potential building improvements that we would be completed before the start of school in the fall. Many of these improvements are costly and therefore it is unlikely that we are able to do all of them. We are asking parents to take this brief survey regarding building improvements to gauge what are the most important improvements you would like to see happen before your child returns to school this fall. I have linked the survey below. Thank you in advance for your feedback!

                                         Building Improvements Survey

If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to the school office or me directly. Thank you for the continued support. God Bless!

BACK  To SchooL This Fall ~Update

7/9/2020

This morning the Emergency Response Committee met and made some final decisions regarding returning to school in the fall. Please understand that we made these decisions based on recommendations from The Department of Public Instruction as well as the Health Department and out of the best interest of our students and staff. I appreciate everyones understanding and cooperation during these difficult times. There are still many details that need to be discussed and finalized, however I felt it was important for parents to have some insight into our plans for fall.
  • School will begin September 1st with a regular 5-day week schedule
  • Teachers and students will be required to wear masks while students are entering school in the morning and exiting school at the end of the day
  • Masks will be required at mass
  • Temperature checks will be done every morning before the student enters the school as well as before lunch recess
  • Teachers will have their temperatures checked every morning when arriving
  • Students/teachers with a temperature of 100.4 or above will be sent home
  • We will be converting the copy room into a health room
  • Drop off procedures will be as follows:
-One way traffic that will enter in the driveway near the church
-Drop off car line (no parking)
-Deb and I will be temperature checking as the child exits the car
-3K-1st grade teachers will be outside to gather the students before entering
-Students can enter and hang mask in locker before entering the classroom
  • Pick Up Procedures will be as follows:
-All homeroom teachers will be escorting students outside
-Parents are to park and come get their child from the teacher

I know many families are concerned about another possible shut down happening this year and what that would look like. The teachers have been working hard to create year long plans. In the event a shutdown is mandated they will know exactly what standards are to be covered. This should make the transition easier if we find ourselves in a virtual learning scenario. As a school we will be using the Google Classroom platform for all virtual learning instruction. Beginning in September students will be shown how to use this platform so that they feel more comfortable and confident using this technology.

The committee is going to be meeting again next week to discuss additional items such as procedures if a student or staff member contracts the virus, specials classes (music, gym, etc.), virtual learning guidelines, and building improvements. Possible building improvements that have been proposed include touchless sinks, touchless hand sanitizer stations, and a drinking fountain with a bottle filling station, among others.

We understand that these guidelines may cause you to have questions. Please feel free to reach out to the school office, myself, or Michael Cotter (mrockstar1@aol.com). Again, thank you for your continued support and understanding.

Megan Prudom

5/13/2020 Newsletter

5/13/2020

I hope that everyone is having a wonderful week! I have been getting some questions about next year regarding combination classes as well as teacher placements. I wanted to give you all some updates so everyone knows what to expect moving into next year. Combination classes have been chosen based on numbers and instructors and none of our classes are larger than 18 at this time. This allows teachers to give students more small group and one on one instruction even in a combination classroom. Below is the plan for next school year:

3K/4K: Hailey Robran
5K/1st: Christina Kaminski
2nd/3rd: Jenni Lehman
4th: Adam Schrieber
5th(Homeroom): Mary Hudec ( Social Studies & ELA)
6th(Homeroom): Sue Flogel (Science & Religion)
7th/8th(Homeroom): Ashley Kommer (Math)

Middle school (Grades 5-8) will rotate between teachers throughout the day for the various subjects.

Thank you for the continued support and if you have any other questions about teacher placements or next year please feel free to contact me or the school office. Have a great rest of the day!

Sincerely,

Megan Prudom

grading scales Changes due to the pandemic

4/30/2020

The transition to virtual learning has dramatically changed the way we teach and learn. The Office for Schools and 3K-12 schools in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee have worked together to design options for grading in these uncharted times. In an effort to more accurately report your child’s progress this quarter, St. Peter's has modified the grading scales used prior to the closing of school buildings due to the pandemic. These grading scales will more accurately and fairly reflect your child’s progress in a virtual learning environment.

Grades K4/K5-
Parents will be provided a summative written assessment of where your child was at prior to March 18th.

Grades 1-3 will be on a 3 point grading scale as follows:
 3: Proficient
· Student demonstrates consistent understanding and application of concepts and skills aligned with grade level standards
· Student can complete assigned tasks independently.
2: Developing
· Student demonstrates partial understanding of grade level standards.
· Student can sometimes complete learning activities without assistance.
1: Insufficient evidence
· Insufficient evidence is available at this time to determine proficiency.

Grades 4-8 will be on a 4 point grading scale as follows:
 4: Advanced
· Student demonstrates understanding of concepts and skills extending beyond grade level standards.
· Student can independently complete self-directed studies.

There will not be traditional grades given as there were in prior quarters, only these proficiency grades shown above will be used to grade progress and understanding on grade level standards. Although these look similar to our regular standards they allow teachers to determine that there is not enough evidence at this time to give an accurate proficiency grade. That is why it is extremely important that students continue to turn in assignments throughout the remainder of the year.

The Office for Schools has also advised all schools to stop marking attendance and tracking behavioral grades for the 4th quarter. Therefore, those sections will be left empty when you receive your child's final report card.

If you have any specific questions or concerns about the grading scales please feel free to email me .

Sincerely,
Megan Prudom

Farewell Mrs. Rotier!

4/22/2020

This newsletter is going to be focused Mrs. Rotier and her long and dedicated career at St. Peter's School. It is with a heavy heart that we are announcing her retirement this year. We want to thank her for everything she has done for our school over her 24 years at St. Peter's.
After 41 years of dedicated service to teaching, Mrs. Sandy Rotier, is setting her sights on a well-deserved retirement and spending more time with her family and her recently retired husband, Steven Rotier, of whom she has been married to for 52 years.

Mrs. Rotier has four children: Sonja, Steven, Sarah, and Sacha. She has seven grandchildren: four boys and three girls. She enjoys visiting them and having them over to her home on Lake Beulah. She has lived in East Troy since 1996 and lived in Spring Green prior to that. The lake house was where they vacationed in the 1980’s. Mr. Rotier is originally from East Troy.
Mrs. Rotier earned her teaching degree between Vernon Teacher’s College, where she attended for 2 years, and then she finished at UW-Plattevile after her husband returned from the Vietnam War. She began her career as a third grade teacher in Wales Elementary School. She also taught middle school 5th-8th at St. Luke’s Plain for 15 years where she also coached 5th-6th grade basketball for 10 years!
She has taught at St. Peter’s Parish School for 24 years. She began as a Preschool Aide, part time third grade teacher, and then taught 5th-8th grade science. A few of Mrs. Rotier’s activities that she took on as a teacher at St. Peter’s are: Advisor to Kiwanis student organization, Garden Club for students, Spelling Bee organizer, bus duty guard, Knowledge Quest coach, Forensics coach, Accreditation Team volunteer, server coordinator for school Mass, May Crowning Mass lead for school Mass, Assistant to Mrs. Bezak for school musicals, summer school teacher at St. Peter’s/tutor, Director for staff plays for children, organizer for fundraisers/drives at our school, organizer of All-School end of the year picnics/Halloween party, advisor to middle school classes with raising money for their 8th grade trip, school store coordinator, volunteer at parish/school fish fry and Fall Festival, financial supporter for Casino Night and students needs at our school, and dedication to her craft as an excellent science teacher and other academic areas that she was willing to teach each year.

The entire school community benefitted from Mrs. Rotier’s leadership and passion for both learning and teaching. The seamless functioning of her role in different capacities at St. Peter’s is evidence that Mrs. Rotier made it a priority to give generously of her time and experience. St. Peter’s would like to dedicate an honorary garden in front of the school to Mrs. Rotier for her years of dedication. Please send a thank you card to Mrs. Rotier to show your appreciation. She would love to hear from you. All of us here at St. Peter’s will miss her dearly. We will never forget her contributions to our school. We wish her all the best in her retirement.

Due to her long service and dedication to our school we are in the process of remodeling the landscaping around the flag pole. Raising the flag every morning was important to her and her students and we thought this would be a great way to honor her for many more years. Thank you to everyone who has helped make this project a possibility and thank you Mrs. Rotier for everything you have done for all of us!

Sincerely,
Megan Prudom

The latest News For you...

3/27/2020

I wanted to make you aware that the ETSD sent out an email yesterday stating that they have no confirmed cases in the school district. St. Peter's would like to echo that sentiment, as of now there are no confirmed cases in our school community that we have been made aware of at this time. I will remain in constant contact with you throughout all of this so that everyone is aware of any changes that may come up. Within the email they also stated that all school district buildings and grounds will be closed until further notice. This includes the tennis courts, skate park, and playgrounds. St. Peter's is still going to have our first set of double doors open for drop off and pick up of materials at this time. However, our playground will also be closed until further notice.
As we continue our work from home, please be aware that each family has their own set of needs and we are doing our best to accommodate. The teachers have been working hard this week setting up Google Classrooms for the middle school students. Make sure that students are logging in everyday and completing necessary assignments. For our younger students we are asking parents to continue to check in everyday with the teacher so that we are able to take attendance for the day. Thank you for your continued efforts during this time.
Next week Wednesday red folders will be available for pick up and will contain the students third quarter report cards. Grades can also be viewed online through Powerschool if you prefer. Please reach out to the school office if you are in need of new login information for Powerschool.
Per the Governor's order we will not be returning to school until Monday, April 27th. Unless the order is lifted sooner. Updates will be provided as I have them. We are going to keep our Spring Break from April 6th-April 13th.
Please reach out with any questions or concerns you may have. I am grateful for the hard work that both the teachers and parents have done over the last few weeks. Keep up the great work and stay healthy!

Sincerely,

Megan Prudom

St. Peter's Closing Update

3/23/2020

Please note that the school with be open until 6pm tonight to pick up or drop off any necessary work. Sorry for the late notice, just wanted to open this up to all parents! Thank you!

The latest news for you

3/23/2020

I want to start out by thanking everyone for their continued patience with us during this time. Please know that like everyone right now we are doing our best to adjust and make this work as effectively and efficiently as possible. Every family has their own set of circumstances and we are doing our best to accommodate as necessary. If your family has a specific need, please reach out to your teacher or myself and we will do our best to help.
With the ETSD going virtual, we are doing our best to keep up, but this is going to look very different depending on the grade level of the students and the comfortability of the teacher. We are all going to be learning new technology skills through this process! If your family needs access to a Chromebook please let the teacher or school office know so that we can have one available for pick up. It is imperative that our students have access to technology to continue communication with the teacher throughout this time.
Lastly, attendance is very important right now. We are asking each family to "check in" with their teacher once a day. We are trying to be flexible with all families to make it work best for you, but this is a vital step in the process. According to the Archdiocese and the State of Wisconsin we are required to be in school a certain number of days/hours. With being out of the building we still need to know that each student is checked in for the day. Your teacher will email you with more information regarding their checking in process. Again, this will look different depending on the grade level of your student.
Any questions or concerns you may have can be directed to me. I am available through email at this time. Thank you again for all your support and understanding. I promise to keep you updated with any changes that come our way through this complicated time.

Sincerely,
Megan Prudom

Update on ETCSD/St. Peter's Closing

3/15/2020

The East Troy School District released an update this evening regarding school closures in East Troy. As of this afternoon, the CDC issued a new, updated guidance regarding the virus. The new guidance recommends that organizers (whether groups or individuals) cancel or postpone in-person events that consist of 50 people or more throughout the United States. As a result, the school board held another emergency meeting this evening and decided to close all schools in the district effective tomorrow. Health and safety for our students and families is first and foremost.

St. Peter's will follow this guideline and we will be open Monday from noon to 3pm for all parents to pick up their children's educational materials and personal belongings. Staff will be preparing materials from 9 AM until noon. If you are unable to pick up the materials tomorrow, this will not adversely affect your child's grades. We will make every effort to coordinate with you so that your child will be able to move forward with their education this month.

Thank you for your patience during this time. Please call the office tomorrow morning if you have any questions or need to make arrangements for a later pick up time.

Our school office number is 642-5533

Closing Due to Coronavirus

3/14/2020

Earlier this morning, East Troy Public Schools released a statement that they will remain open Monday March 16th and Tuesday March 17th, but will close from March 18th through April 14th. This encompasses the previously scheduled Spring Break. Keeping in line with my previous communication, we are also going to follow this schedule. With many other schools in the area choosing to close beginning Monday, we understand if you prefer your child to stay home. These absences will be excused, but we ask that you please call the school office to inform us of the absence.
We will do our best as a staff to make sure that your child is given the resources necessary to continue learning during this time. Next Monday and Tuesday will be used as a time to prepare the students and staff for this period of modified instruction. Thank you for your continued commitment to our school and if you have any specific questions you are welcome to reach out to me via email or by calling the school office.

Sincerely,

Megan Prudom

Closings Due to CoronaVirus

3/13/2020

As many of you may have heard, Governor Evers declared that all schools will be closed starting Wednesday March 18th until Monday, April 6th. I have spoken with Father Mark and at this point we are going to follow East Troy School Districts decision on whether or not we will have school on Monday March 16th. Please know that as soon as I am aware of their decision I will notify you. Students were sent home from school with resources and assignments that they can do from home. More information will be provided in the coming days as to how we are going to continue this altered format of in-home instruction. Thank you for your patience and understanding in this ever-changing situation.

Sincerely,
Megan Prudom
