The transition to virtual learning has dramatically changed the way we teach and learn. The Office for Schools and 3K-12 schools in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee have worked together to design options for grading in these uncharted times. In an effort to more accurately report your child’s progress this quarter, St. Peter's has modified the grading scales used prior to the closing of school buildings due to the pandemic. These grading scales will more accurately and fairly reflect your child’s progress in a virtual learning environment.
Grades K4/K5- Parents will be provided a summative written assessment of where your child was at prior to March 18th. Grades 1-3 will be on a 3 point grading scale as follows: 3: Proficient · Student demonstrates consistent understanding and application of concepts and skills aligned with grade level standards · Student can complete assigned tasks independently. 2: Developing · Student demonstrates partial understanding of grade level standards. · Student can sometimes complete learning activities without assistance. 1: Insufficient evidence · Insufficient evidence is available at this time to determine proficiency. Grades 4-8 will be on a 4 point grading scale as follows: 4: Advanced · Student demonstrates understanding of concepts and skills extending beyond grade level standards. · Student can independently complete self-directed studies. 3: Proficient · Student demonstrates consistent understanding and application of concepts and skills aligned with grade level standards · Student can complete assigned tasks independently. 2: Developing · Student demonstrates partial understanding of grade level standards. · Student can sometimes complete learning activities without assistance. 1: Insufficient evidence · Insufficient evidence is available at this time to determine proficiency. There will not be traditional grades given as there were in prior quarters, only these proficiency grades shown above will be used to grade progress and understanding on grade level standards. Although these look similar to our regular standards they allow teachers to determine that there is not enough evidence at this time to give an accurate proficiency grade. That is why it is extremely important that students continue to turn in assignments throughout the remainder of the year. The Office for Schools has also advised all schools to stop marking attendance and tracking behavioral grades for the 4th quarter. Therefore, those sections will be left empty when you receive your child's final report card. If you have any specific questions or concerns about the grading scales please feel free to email me . Sincerely, Megan Prudom Comments are closed.
